Business Formation

Business Formation Law in the United States is regulated by State authorities. Nevertheless, most state business laws are very similar. Additionally, a few federal laws affect business formation considerations, as well, such as federal tax laws, employment laws, etc.

Corporations and LLCs

When it’s time to incorporate, many small business owners find themselves wondering which business type to choose. Gaining a clear understanding of your options can feel overwhelming, especially if you’re just getting started. Let’s take a look at some consideration points when comparing LLC vs. corporation options. But first, let’s start with a quick definition of what it means to incorporate.

Copyright Law

Copyrights protect original creative works such as paintings, songs, books, photographs and other original works of authorship.

Trademark Law

Trademark law governs the use of a device (including a word, phrase, symbol, product shape, or logo) by a manufacturer or merchant to identify its goods and to distinguish those goods from those made or sold by another.

Limited Scope Representation

Limited-scope representation is when you and a lawyer agree that the lawyer will handle some parts of your case and you will handle others. This is different from more traditional arrangements between lawyers and clients where a lawyer is hired to provide legal services on all aspects of a case, from start to finish.

Criminal Law

Criminal law involves prosecution by the government of a person for an act that has been classified as a crime. Civil cases, on the other hand, involve individuals and organizations seeking to resolve legal disputes. In a criminal case, the state, through a prosecutor, initiates the suit, while in a civil case the victim brings the suit. Persons convicted of a crime may be incarcerated, fined, or both. However, persons found liable in a civil case may only have to give up property or pay money, but are not incarcerated.

Family Law

Most family law practices focus on representing clients in a divorce and the issues related to divorce such as the division of marital property, child custody and support, and alimony. Family lawyers also draft prenuptial and postnuptial agreements and litigate related matters.
